AudioPen: a Game-changer!

I want to share my first impressions and initial uses of the AudioPen tool. I stumbled upon it while researching AI tools for educators.  AudioPen was created by Louis Pereira @louispereira  

I was so impressed that within hours, I purchased an annual subscription for $99, or $159 for two years. This price feels fair for what the tool offersAudioPen uses artificial intelligence to turn your spoken thoughts into a cohesive account.  As their ad copy states:  "Go from fuzzy thought to clear text.  Fast."

For people like me who think out loud, this is incredibly helpful. Normally, our spoken thoughts are filled with "ums" and "uhs" and long pauses. As a prime user, you can record up to 15 minutes of transcription at a time, which is usually enough. You can add more after the initial limit, though I've had some issues where the app didn't correct my ramblings. Asking the tool to re-translate usually fixes this. The real magic of AudioPen is its ability to style your transcription in various ways. You can create bullet-point lists, write concisely, or even adopt technical or legal styles. Most importantly, it can mimic your own writing style if you provide a few paragraphs of your writing. I've been experimenting with this feature a lot and am very impressed.  

One feature I wish it had is the ability to read back my completed transcription. I enjoy the conversational manner of ChatGPT and would love that for this app. Another improvement could be adding more creative styles like famous writers or satirical tones.  

I have noticed a minor issue when using the tool on my iPhone; the screen goes dark after 10-15 seconds, which sometimes stops the recording. This might be an iPhone setting that I need to adjust. 

Overall, I give AudioPen 5 stars out of 5.

It’s worth the money and is a game-changer for educators. So far, I've used it to create blog posts and Twitter posts and even started writing my autobiography and another book about my 32+ year career as a teacher and librarian. I'm very excited about its possibilities and hope others find it as useful as I do.   

Late addition.  I received a wonderful email from Louis, the app's creator, after purchasing the Prime Subscription.  It listed a ton of features I didn't even mention, but are equally impressive!

• Combine multiple notes into a single SuperSummary
• Change the style of your notes even after you've saved them
• Create custom branded, shareable images from your notes
